It was a little too wild

About 1:30am we were awoken by flashs of "red" lightning. Never seen that before. Turns out it was low voltage lightning. We got up when the construction workers started returning from their overnight shifts. Headed out of camp at 6:am for the Town & Pump store and a warm breakfast. We are headed northwest across a lot of open space today. Crossed the Yellowstone River at 6:40am and said goodbye to Forsyth, a lovely little western town. After a climb out of the river valley it was fairly flat to the old townsite of Vananda. All that stands today is the old school building. The next 22 miles were easy riding and we arrived at the old town of Ingomar in time for lunch. After a huge chef's salad we took some photos of the buildings and hit the pavement. We rode a few miles and passed by Sumatra and decided to keep riding to the junction of highway 500 and then see how things were looking. Some clouds were building to the west but overall everything looked okay. So, we rode 8 miles to the north and found a nice area to camp for the night. The clouds were starting to look worse as we set up the tent and covered the trikes. Then all hell broke loose and we dove into the tent and zipped ourselves inside. For the next 2 1/2 hours the wind blew and the rain poured as we sat, laid, and sprawled to keep the tent on the ground and in one piece. When the storm was finally over we crawled out to check for damage and it looked like we had dodged the bullet. We shook the dust out of the sleeping bags and wiped the dust out the tent. We finally got to enjoy our supper and then called it a day after triking 82 miles and making it through the storm.
