"Trikers" are welcome too

Woke up at 4:45am and felt great after a good night's sleep in a "real" bed. Off to the Conoco station for that homemade Mexican breakfast. We loaded the trikes and pulled out of the motel parking lot at 5:50am with all the construction workers who were heading off to work. The 44 miles were just up and down with some real long climbs stuck in just to make us work a little harder. We countered with stops every five miles that included a drink and a small snack. The 15 mph tailwind didn't make us the least bit unhappy. The countryside provided views of cattle, rocks, canyons, pine trees, green pastures and lots of rolling hills. About 45 minutes into today's ride I got the urge for a big bowl of hot chili. At every rest stop I would tell Dee what I wanted to eat when we got to the truck stop and she would just say "good luck". At 2:30pm, after speeding down the last big descent, we sailed into the truck stop parking lot and headed for the cafe. On the menu board it read "soup of the day - chili". I ate mine and half of Dee's. I was one happy triker. We paid for a tent site that included a shower and proceeded to get rid of all the road grime. The wind changed directions 180 degrees and the temperature dropped to 60f. We set the tent up on the south side of a storage building to have some shelter. We went back to the cafe and the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls caught our attention. They just became our supper. We stayed and read for a couple hours as it was warmer and we were out of the noisy wind. As we were returning to the tent about 7:30pm the rain drops started falling. We'll have to see what tomorrow's weather has in store for us.
