DAY 22, July 5, 2010
After an all night down pour, we awoke to more rain. We kept hearing the glacier calving from our tent, so in spite of the cold pouring rain, we donned our coats and rain suits and went to one of the viewing platforms to watch. When we heard it cracking and moaning, Cal got the camera ready. He managed to get a few stills and some wonderful video. We were afraid to leave because every time we turned our backs, a really big chunk fell. By midafternoon the rain let up enough for us to break camp and pack up all the wet gear. We left the glacier at about 4:30 and it immediately started raining again. We rode the 50 miles in showers alternating with hard rain, finally arriving back in Cordova at 11:00 p.m. We headed straight for the Harbor Master and a really hot shower. There was no way to dry our clothes and it was now after midnight, so we just stayed at the Harbor Master's facility reading until time to head for the ferry at 6:00 a.m.
