Welcome shelter
We had light rain at 11pm for just a few minutes. At 4am the thunder and lightning woke us from a sound sleep. We quickly packed up the camping gear and headed for the campground laundryroom. We just made it just before the rain cut loose. The downpour lasted for 2 hours. Dee used her smartphone to check tonght's forecast and reported that "snow" was possible with temperatures in the "low" 30's. This is not what we had plan for--it's May 11th not March 11th. We found a KOA in Gothenburg with cabins 48 miles away so that became our goal for today. By 6:45am the storm had passed and we were on our way. It was a damp and chilly ride and after 22 miles we were ready for 2nd breakfast. Spotted a local mom and pop cafe with lots of local cars outside which to us means good food at reasonable prices. Right once again. The Union Pacific Railroad mainline parallels the highway and the traffic is loaded coaltrains eastbound and empty coaltrains westbound. We arrived at the KOA mid-afternoon to light rain and a cool breeze. A long hot shower solved all our woes. Do to heavy rains and cold temperatures we declared a rest day for May 12th. We read in the cabin and reorganized our gear for a tomorrow departure.
