Well, this Lutheran church will be home for the night. There is even a 3 hole outhouse out back, complete with toilet paper. After 58 great miles we are in the TINY town of Bingham
We will ride across Nebraska along highway 20 and the Cowboy Rails-to-Trail. The trip will go from the Wyoming state line to the Missouri River.
Cal & Dee, Looks like you're near the top of your long climb -- the elevation in Alliance is just under 4,000 feet -- so you have less than 200 feet to go. Then you should have a nice downhill ride to Chadron and on into South Dakota. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCal & Dee, I realize that South Dakota is still some days in the future, but there are some interesting sites there if you have time and interest. Custer State Park has a large buggalo herd and scores of begging burros that are very aggressive about obtaining food from humans. I don't know how they'd react to trikers. Then there's Mount Rushmore and as I recall, the highest point in South Dakota is nearby. It's called Harney Peak and is 7,000+ feet high. The hiking route is 3.5 miles one way. A little farther north is Deadwood where Wild Bill Hickock met his untimely end while holding a full house of aces and eights -- the famous dead man's hand.
ReplyDeleteCal & Dee, I just noticed that you're close to where author Mari Sandoz lived. If you're looking for a good read, see if you can find her biography of Crazy Horse, the Sioux chief who participated in the Little Big Horn massacre of Custer & his troops and who was murdered at Fort Robinson, which is also close to where you are. You're now in Sioux country -- so the book will have even more meaning. Dean
